Budget Cuts Stink: Why Melrose’s Trash Is Piling Up

By now, many of you may have noticed some of the effects of last year’s failed Override on city services. One visible example is the reduction of trash barrels across the city.

• Fewer or no trash barrels in public parks
• No Sunday pickup of city trash barrels

The image above is a reminder of the challenges we face when our city services aren’t fully funded. Without adequate resources, issues like overflowing or scattered trash can become more common. This serves as a clear example of why investing in our city services matters for keeping Melrose clean, safe, and welcoming.
